Catholic Central dropped the opening set 18-25, but responded with three consecutive set wins: 25-11, 25-22, and 25-19.  Key contributors included outside hitter Evy Koops with 15 kills and setter Cece Rybicki who dished 33 assists. Service-ace specialist Cara Wolf added three aces to bolster the Cougars’ momentum.  With the win, the Cougars’ record advanced to 36-13-1. What the Title Means

For Catholic Central, this district title is more than just hardware — it’s confirmation of a program rising to the occasion when it matters most. The turnaround after the first-set drop showed mental toughness, and the depth of contribution (kills, assists, service pressure) speaks to a well-rounded squad.

On the flip side, West Catholic ran into a resurging opponent and had to settle for the role of runner-up in what was a competitive affair.

Looking Ahead

Catholic Central now advances into the regional phase of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) tournament with momentum in hand. This victory sets the tone: they’ve proven they can rebound after adversity and sustain a high level of play across multiple sets.

West Catholic heads home but can take pride in reaching the district final and testing a strong opponent under playoff pressure.

Final Thought

District championships are often about more than skill, they’re about resilience, depth, and seizing the moment. Catholic Central demonstrated all of those traits Thursday night. With the toughest hurdle in district play cleared, the Cougars now turn their sights to advancing deeper in the postseason.
