GRAND RAPIDS, MI — In a stunning show of generosity and spirit, Far Out Volleyball Club raised over $50,000 for Special Olympics Michigan during its annual Polar Plunge fundraising campaign, making it the top fundraising organization in the state for 2025.
The club, one of Michigan’s premier youth volleyball programs with a long-standing commitment to both athletic and community excellence, rallied its athletes, families, and supporters around the cause. The result: a record-breaking total that will directly support thousands of Special Olympics athletes across the state in year-round programming, training, and inclusive sports opportunities.

While the event’s name suggests icy waters and frigid temps, this year’s plunge was met with a twist. A March heat wave swept through the region, leaving participants under the sun and sweating through their final pre-plunge practice. But the unseasonable warmth didn’t diminish the excitement, in fact, it made the icy jump more refreshing than ever, with athletes diving in enthusiastically after a hard-earned workout.
Dressed in Far Out gear and energized by music, camaraderie, and the spirit of giving, Far Out’s players demonstrated the same determination and team-first mindset off the court that they show in competition.

Special Olympics Michigan, headquartered in Mount Pleasant, serves more than 23,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities, offering not just athletic competition but also health screenings, education, and leadership development. Events like the Polar Plunge are a crucial part of funding these initiatives—and Far Out Volleyball’s efforts will make a lasting impact.
This year’s success is a continuation of the club’s tradition of service, and their top finish among statewide organizations highlights just how far-reaching and meaningful youth sports can be when they embrace a mission greater than the game.

As the club turns its focus back to tournament season, the message is clear: Far Out isn’t just about volleyball: it’s about Trust Love and Family. Those values form the core of Far Out Volleyball Club and extend to the over 23,000 athletes they support in Special Olympics across the state.
