ADA, Mich. — A strong defensive performance helped Kenowa Hills High School earn a 48–35 road victory over Forest Hills Eastern High School on February 6, but the night also featured a memorable performance from Forest Hills Eastern freshman Maddie Brown, who refused to let the Hawks go quietly.
Kenowa Hills set the tone early with physical defense and disciplined offensive possessions. The Knights controlled the pace of the game, forcing difficult shots and limiting second-chance opportunities to slowly build an advantage through the first half.
Forest Hills Eastern battled to keep the game within reach, but Kenowa Hills’ defense consistently disrupted the Hawks’ rhythm and prevented them from putting together extended scoring runs.
Knights Control the Tempo
Kenowa Hills’ ability to dictate the style of play proved critical. The Knights executed well in the half court, moved the ball effectively, and capitalized on defensive stops to maintain their lead.
As the game progressed, Kenowa Hills continued to lean on its defensive identity, contesting nearly every shot and making it difficult for Forest Hills Eastern to find easy baskets.
Freshman Keeps Hawks Fighting
While Kenowa Hills controlled much of the game, freshman Maddie Brown delivered a remarkable performance for Forest Hills Eastern that kept the Hawks within striking distance.
Brown played with impressive poise for a first-year varsity player, attacking the basket, knocking down key shots, and bringing relentless energy on both ends of the floor. Each time Forest Hills Eastern needed a spark, Brown seemed to provide it, helping the Hawks remain competitive despite Kenowa Hills’ defensive pressure.
When she wasn’t putting the ball away, she was crashing the offensive glass to give the Hawks additional possessions.
Her effort energized the Hawks and gave them opportunities to chip away at the deficit, drawing attention as one of the brightest individual performances of the night.
Closing the Door
In the fourth quarter, Kenowa Hills maintained its composure and continued to rely on defense and rebounding to protect its lead. The Knights made enough plays down the stretch to keep Forest Hills Eastern from mounting a full comeback.
When the final buzzer sounded, Kenowa Hills secured the 48–35 victory, but the game also highlighted the resilience of the Hawks and the emergence of a promising young player in Maddie Brown.
If her performance was any indication, Forest Hills Eastern may have found a cornerstone for the future.
