2025 NYBA Camp Extends Community and Athletics to All

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – June 23, 2025

More than just basketball was on display at the MSA Sports Complex on June 23, as the Grand Rapids National Youth Basketball Association (NYBA) held its annual summer camp for youth athletes across West Michigan. The 2025 NYBA Camp served as a beacon for athletic development, character building, and community connection—offering an inclusive environment where every child had a chance to grow on and off the court.

The camp welcomed over 150 boys and girls ages 8–14, ranging from seasoned players to kids picking up a basketball for the first time. With a curriculum focused on fundamentals, teamwork, and leadership, the NYBA staff blended elite instruction with positive mentorship. Campers worked through skill stations including ball handling, shooting technique, defensive positioning, and fast break scenarios, all led by experienced coaches and guest trainers.

This year’s camp featured a special guest panel with local high school standouts, former college athletes, and motivational speakers who shared their personal journeys in sports, school, and life. Campers asked questions, took photos, and heard firsthand how basketball opened doors far beyond the hardwood.

One of the camp’s major highlights was the “Team Unity Challenge,” a full-day tournament in which players were divided into balanced teams and competed in a mini league—complete with playoffs and a championship game. Emphasis was placed not on wins and losses, but on hustle, encouragement, and team spirit.

NYBA also took steps to ensure that cost was never a barrier. Thanks to local sponsorships and private donors, nearly 40% of campers attended on full or partial scholarship. The camp also partnered with local nonprofits to provide transportation and meals to families in need.

The NYBA plans to host additional satellite clinics this fall, with a focus on underserved neighborhoods throughout Grand Rapids. For more information or to get involved, visit nybagr.org.

The 2025 NYBA Camp proved that when you blend opportunity with passion, you don’t just grow better athletes—you grow a stronger community.
