Cardinals Dominate Tigers in Home League Finale

Big Rapids, MI – In a commanding display of athleticism and cohesion, the Big Rapids High School girls basketball team wrapped up their regular season with a resounding 74–36 victory over visiting Grant High School. The win secured a perfect 10–0 record in Central State Activities Association (CSAA) play, boosting their overall mark to 17–2.

Breaking It Down: A Complete Team Effort

From the opening tip-off, Big Rapids set the tone:

Quarter 1: Built an early 24–12 lead Halftime: Extended to 39–18 Third quarter: Led 58–25 heading into the final stanza 

On the stat sheet, standout performances included:

Nuray Fricke: 21 points Nalaya Fricke: 19 points Haley Fox: 15 points

For Grant, Emma Thompson added 13 points and Jocee Pelune chipped in nine.

Coach’s Corner & Strategic Execution

Coach Jessia Haist praised her team’s fast start and relentless pressing defense, noting that the Cardinals “got off to a really hot start,” executed their full‑court press effectively, and moved the ball with precision  . She highlighted Nalaya Fricke’s leadership on the perimeter, pointing to her ability to orchestrate plays and energize her teammates.

This victory not only underscored Big Rapids’ dominance in league play but also sent a strong message heading into district tournament action, with two nonleague games remaining on the schedule.

Big Rapids prepares for upcoming home and road games before starting their district run. Grant, finishing with a league record of 4–6 and overall 9–12, looks to regroup and compete in district competition.
